Issues on Copyright and Related Rights Discussed
1 / 8

On September 22, at the initiative of the members of the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport the composer, the RA Merited Figure of Culture Gusan Haykazun, the composer, playwright and script writer Krist Manaryan, as well as representatives of a number of the RA state and public organizations, which were engaged with the protection of the copyright and related rights or conditioned by the character of the work should be connected with, visited the parliament.

According to Sofia Hovsepyan, the goal of the meeting is to raise the problems existing in the sphere of copyright and the search of the ways to solve them.

In the sphere of copyright, the problems are numerous: in this issue all the invitees and legislators were of the same opinion.

According to the Director of Hayheghinak/Armenian Author NGO, Susanna Nersisyan, the sphere is regulated, but the law is not fully in force.

The Acting Head of the Intellectual Property Agency of the RA Ministry of Economy Kristine Hambaryan has informed that the RA Ministry of Economy has already revised a bill for about two years, which being adopted by the National Assembly will completely regulate the field.

In this context, some of the participants of the discussion proposed not only to debate the citizens’ awareness, but also invest control up to punitive mechanisms in the sphere, when the copyright would be violated.

Summing up the debate, the RA NA deputy Sofia Hovsepyan offered to hold parliamentary hearings, when the draft law would be passed in the first reading in the parliament. It has been noted that at this moment it is under expertise in the RA Ministry of Justice.
